Install the AccountingLink utility on a remote desktop

Below are special instructions to install the AccountingLink utility for QuickBooks Desktop or Sage 50 Canada on a virtual machine/desktop.

System requirements

  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 or Windows Server 2012 R2 or later
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or later
  • Screen Resolution:
    • 1024 x 768
    • Font Size: 100%
  • Internet Ports Open: 80 (http://) and 443 (https://)

Install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or later

Before you begin

Check which version of the Microsoft .NET Framework is installed on the computer, as follows:

  1. From the Start menu, select Run, enter regedit in the available field, and then select OK.

  2. In the Registry Editor, open the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full.

    If the Full subkey is not present, .NET Framework 4.5 or later is not installed in your computer.

  3. Find the REG_DWORD entry named Release.

    If it exists, .NET Framework 4.5 or later is installed and its value corresponds to a particular version of .NET Framework. For example, release 528040 corresponds to .NET Framework 4.8 on Windows 10.

    Check this page to see which .NET Framework version matches the release value on the computer.

Download and install Microsoft .NET

If your system already has Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.8 or later, you can skip the steps below.

  1. Download Microsoft .Net 4.8 from the official Microsoft download page here.

  2. Run the installer and follow the prompts.

  3. Restart the computer if prompted.

Step 1: Instructions for the host provider's IT manager

  1. Log in to contractor's virtual machine/desktop using Citrix or Windows Terminal Services.
  2. Open the browser, such as Chrome or Firefox.
  3. Download and install the AccountingLink utility based on your accounting system as follows:
  4. Follow the installation instructions.
  5. Go to Start > Programs > Sage Construction Management > AccountingLink for QuickBooks/Sage 50 Canada and create a shortcut for AccountingLink on desktop for the contractor's accounting staff.
The AccountingLink utilities use port 80 and 443 when connecting to the Sage Construction Management database.

Step 2: Instructions for contractors

  1. Log in to the contractor's virtual machine/desktop using Citrix or Windows Terminal Services.
  2. Open the accounting application and company database.
  3. Open the AccountingLink utility.
  4. Enter the Sage Construction Management log in information.
  5. In the AccountingLink application, select Help > View Help.
  6. Review the help topics on AccountingLink setup.
  7. Establish the connection between Sage Construction Management and the accounting database.
