Add a work assembly

Step 1: Add the work assembly header information

  1. Go to Cost DB.
  2. Select the actions menu icon () in the Work Assembly row of the Internal Cost Database Stats section.
  3. Select Add Manually.
  4. Enter the assembly Code and Description.

    The code must be alpha-numeric.

  5. Optionally, enter the Unit of measure.
  6. Select Add & Next.

Step 2: Add labor items

  • To add labor items in this step, do the following:

    1. Optionally, use the Search field to filter the list by code and description.

    2. Select the labor items to be added to the assembly.

    3. Select Add & Next.

  • To skip this step and add labor items later, if needed, select Skip.

Step 3: Add equipment items

  • To add equipment items in this step, do the following:

    1. Optionally, use the Search field to filter the list by code and description.

    2. Select the equipment items to be added to the assembly.

    3. Select Add & Next.

  • To skip this step and add equipment items later, if needed, select Skip.

Step 4: Add work items

  • To add work items in this step, do the following:

    1. Optionally, you can filter the work items by selecting a classification system from the Filter Type dropdown, then select the corresponding code using the magnifying glass icon ().

    2. Optionally, use the Search field to filter the list by code and description.

    3. Select the work items to be added to the assembly.

    4. Select Add & Next.

  • To skip this step and add work items later, if needed, select Skip.

Step 5: Add work assembly variables

Variables are used to calculate the overall assembly quantity and its components, so at least one variable must be defined for each work assembly.

If your work assembly uses the built-in WAQty variable, do not define any additional variables. This is important for kit-type assemblies, where WAQty must be the only variable present.

  • To add variables in this step, do the following for each variable:

    1. Enter the Variable Name and Description.

    2. Update the Default Quantity.

The default value is zero (0).

    3. Optionally, enter the Unit of measure.

    4. Select Add & Next.

You can define up to ten (10) variables.

  • To skip this step and add variables later, if needed, select Skip.

Step 6: Classify the work assembly

Classifying work assemblies, such as by cost code, can be helpful when managing a large number of records. For smaller sets, a simple text search is often the quickest way to filter the list.

  • To skip this step, select Skip.

  • To add classifications, do the following:

    1. For each classification code that you want to add, do the following:

      1. Select the Classification Type, such as your primary cost code system.

Administrators can manage these options in Settings () > Company Settings > Cost Codes.

      2. Select the magnifying glass icon () next to the classification type to view the available codes.
      3. Optionally, select the right arrow next to a code to drill down to a lower level.

Codes can be nested up to four levels deep.

      4. Select the code that you want to use for classification.

      5. Select Add New Line to include more classifications.

    2. Select Finish.

A message shows the number of classifications added successfully and those that failed.
