Add or edit an estimate's scope
Inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications are notes that form part of an estimate or proposal. In Sage Construction Management, these notes can be documented either at the estimate level or at the individual cost code level.
It's recommended to use one approach or the other, but not both, to avoid duplication or confusion.
-
Inclusions
Inclusions describe the work that is covered in the proposal, including items that might not be immediately obvious. Think of inclusions as a narrative explanation of the cost items included in the estimate.
-
Exclusions
Exclusions describe the work that is not covered in the proposal, helping to clearly define scope boundaries and avoid misunderstandings.
-
Clarifications
Clarifications are used to identify assumptions or items shown on drawings that lack sufficient detail to be priced accurately.
- Estimate scope is documented in the estimate's Scope tab.
- Cost code scope is documented on the Cost Code Details page.
-
Estimates and cost code scopes use the same mail merge table in the Estimate Proposal Template. The estimate‑level scope is populated first, followed by the cost code scope.
-
To create default scope templates, go to Settings (
) > Templates & Reports > Scope Templates. Once created, these templates can be imported into an estimate or cost code. -
When using the Contract Setup Wizard, estimate and cost code scopes can be copied to the prime contract.
- Go to Leads or Projects and select the lead or project in the Quick Select section.
- On the Lead or Project Home page, select Estimates in the Preconstruction section.
- Select the estimate number or title from the list.
- Select View Estimate.
- Within the estimate, select the Scope tab.
- Enter text in Inclusions, Exclusions, and Clarifications sections as needed.
- Select Save.
