Annotate drawings and documents

Tools to add annotations

Tool Name Description
Cloud

Use the Cloud tool to create shapes and outlines with an arbitrary number of sides on the document.

Cloud annotations are commonly used to highlight areas, revisions, or sections that require review.

Hold the Shift key while drawing to create horizontal, vertical, or 45‑degree angled lines. You can add a note that is displayed when the cloud shape is hovered over.

Rectangle

Use the Rectangle tool to draw rectangular shapes on the document. Rectangle annotations are useful for boxing areas to draw attention to specific content or sections.

Hold the Shift key while drawing to create a perfect square. You can also add a note that appears when the rectangle is hovered over.

Ellipse

Use the Ellipse tool to draw oval or circular shapes on the document and circle key information or highlight rounded areas.

Hold the Shift key while drawing to create a perfect circle. You can attach a note to the ellipse for additional context.

Arrow

Use the Arrow tool to draw arrows that point to specific locations or details on the document. Arrows help direct attention or clarify relationships between elements.

Hold the Shift key while drawing to constrain arrows to straight horizontal or vertical directions. Notes can be added to provide explanations.

Pen

Use the Pen tool to draw freehand marks, quick sketches, markings, informal annotations, or handwritten notes directly on the document.

You can adjust the pen color and thickness using the Style options.

Highlighter

Use the Highlighter tool to draw transparent highlight strokes over content on the document. Highlighted content remains visible beneath the annotation. You can customize the color and opacity.

Callout

Use the Callout tool to add a text annotation connected to a specific point with an arrow. Callouts are useful for labeling items and providing explanations without covering document content.

Text Box

Use the Text Box tool to insert typed text anywhere on the document. Text boxes are useful for longer comments or notes that do not need to point to a specific location. These annotations support rich text and are independent of a specific anchor point.

 Highlight

Use the Highlight tool to highlight selected text in the document. Highlighted text remains readable while standing out for review or emphasis.

 Underline

Use the Underline tool to draw a line under selected text to emphasize important information without obscuring content.

 Strikeout

Use the Strikeout tool to draw a line through selected text to indicate text that should be removed or revised.

Note

Use the Note tool to attach comments to the document without marking directly on the content.

Note icons appear and display their text when hovered over or selected.

 Style

Use the Style tool to customize the appearance of annotations.

You can change the color, line thickness, opacity, and font. Available options vary by annotation type.

Undo Use Undo to reverse the most recent annotation or review action.
Redo Use Redo to reapply the last action that was undone.
 Eraser

Use the Eraser tool to remove freehand drawings or annotation strokes from the document without deleting the entire annotation.

  1. Select the Eraser icon.

  2. Drag over the annotation strokes you want to remove.
