Organize tasks to create a parent and child hierarchy

Open the schedule

  1. Go to Projects and select the appropriate project in the Quick Select section.
  2. On the Project Home page, select Schedules in the Scheduling section.
  3. In the Schedules (Gantt Chart) section, select the appropriate schedule's record number or name.

Indent a task to create a child

  1. Select the appropriate task.
  2. Select the Indent icon () on the toolbar.

    The task will shift to the right and the task above it will become its parent. There can be multiple tasks with the same indention, which will have the same parent.

  3. Select the Submit changes to server icon () on the toolbar.

Outdent a task

  1. Select the appropriate task.
  2. Select the Outdent icon () on the toolbar.

    The task will shift to the left.

  3. Select the Submit changes to server icon () on the toolbar.

Add a new parent task and indent the tasks below it

  1. Select the first task that will have the new task as parent.
  2. Select the Add new row icon () on the toolbar and select Add new empty row above in the dropdown.
  3. Enter the Task description and select a Start date.

    The date will change after it becomes a parent task.

  4. Select one or more tasks to become child tasks of the new task.

  5. Select the Indent icon () on the toolbar.
  6. Select the Submit changes to server icon () on the toolbar.

Next steps: It's recommended to do the following:

  1. Select all the tasks.
  2. Select Choose Bulk Actions.
  3. Select Reset IDs based on current Sort Order.
  4. Select Apply.
