Indent or outdent tasks to create a parent and child hierarchy
Indent a task to create a child
- Go to Projects and select the appropriate project in the Quick Select section.
- On the Project Home page, select Scheduling Overview or Schedules in the Scheduling section.
- In the Schedules (Gantt Chart) section, select the appropriate schedule.
- Select the appropriate task.
- Select the Indent icon (
) on the toolbar.
The task will shift to the right and the task above it will become its parent. There can be multiple tasks with the same indention, which will have the same parent.
- Select the Save icon (
) on the toolbar.
Outdent a task
- Go to Projects and select the appropriate project in the Quick Select section.
- On the Project Home page, select Scheduling Overview or Schedules in the Scheduling section.
- In the Schedules (Gantt Chart) section, select the appropriate schedule.
- Select the appropriate task.
- Select the Outdent icon (
) on the toolbar.
The task will shift to the left.
- Select the Save icon (
) on the toolbar.
Add a new parent task and indent the tasks below it
- Go to Projects and select the appropriate project in the Quick Select section.
- On the Project Home page, select Scheduling Overview or Schedules in the Scheduling section.
- In the Schedules (Gantt Chart) section, select the appropriate schedule.
- Select the first task that will have the new task as parent.
- Select the Add new row icon (
) on the toolbar and select Add new empty row above in the dropdown.
- Enter the Task description and select any Start date.
The date will change after it becomes a parent task.
- Select one or more tasks below it that will become child tasks.
- Select the Indent icon (
) on the toolbar.
- Select the Save icon (
) on the toolbar.
- Optionally, it's recommended to do the following:
- Select all the tasks.
- Select Choose Bulk Actions.
- Select Reset IDs based on current Sort Order.
- Select Apply.
